One More Week!

One more week until Riley’s 8 week follow-up appointment after her TPLO knee surgery.  Hopefully she’ll get off of strict crate rest and be allowed to roam the house.  I read online somewhere that you have to keep your dog from running and jumping for 16 weeks…shoot me now!  I’m hoping her X-rays will show that her bone is 100% healed and she’ll be able to slowly work back up to normal activity.  We’ve followed all the instructions to a T, so we’ll see if all of our hard work has paid off.

Her appointment is next Wednesday, December 14th, at 9:00 AM.  I can’t wait to see how well she’s healing because in MY humble opinion, she’s doing great!

Thanks to Miss Barbara and the OP Pack for giving this Monkey Mark toy to Riley!  She has enjoyed the heck out of it and has chewed it into shreds that she STILL likes to play with.  She likes to lay her head on it when she’s sleeping.

Continue to keep your paws crossed for Riley’s recovery!  She’s doing great so far and we hope she can be freed of the crate next Wednesday.

Four Days Post-Op

Well, here we are, four days after surgery.  Riley is doing very well.  She is putting weight on her leg and has a surprisingly good attitude about being penned up in her crate.  She is so much happier in her new, larger crate!

My good friend, Gail, got Riley a get-well-soon card!  How thoughtful!

It says: “Hang in there, Riley.  It won’t be long before you are back chasing balls and squirrels.”  🙂

Riley has to wear her prong collar out in the backyard on the leash now so I can have better control of her.  She tried to start running off last night after a rabbit–YIKES!  Luckily she was on her prong collar and couldn’t take off.  Then, that’s her not so high tech “sling” under her belly to keep her from slipping and falling and to provide her with extra support.
We want to send a big thank you out to two of our wonderful blogging pals!  The first is our friend Miss Barbara!  She was having a giveaway for a flappy monkey toy on her blog and we won!  But, we have to say thank you big time to our friends, The OP Pack: Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning!  They were the original winners of the toy and they said to pass it on to someone else because they had won a lot of things lately and it was passed on to Riley girl!  We are thrilled and I know she will be happy to get a new little friend to play with in her crate.
