I took Riley by the vet today to weigh her as I was starting to think she was looking a little porky… I was right! She’s hasn’t just gotten a little porky–she’s gained 6 pounds since we were there about 3 months ago!! 6!!! Sheesh. She’s up to a whopping 58 pounds now, although she doesn’t look all that fat, just a little rotund.
So now we’re doing a big diet and exercise regimen with her! We went to a local park this morning and walked around the lake there and Riley got to get a little wet. Then, since it was hot, we came home and filled up the kiddie pool for the dogs in the backyard. They had a blast with both things. Chloe doesn’t like to share the kiddie pool with Riley, so we had to hold Chloe outside of the pool every so often so Riley could get in and cool off some.
Riley and I on the pier.
Walking with Chloe and Grandma trailing behind us. Chloe caught up quickly though and pretty much trotted the whole way!
A loverly butt shot.
Cooling off a bit in the lake. There’s a little sandy “beach” area that you can wade in.
Chloe likes to try to bite at the water that you splash at her. She was the one that spent the majority of the time in the pool, but we did give her little breaks so Riley could cool off some.
Riley liked to lie down in it and cool off her belly.
And of course she went to the dirtiest spot in the yard and rolled around, getting filthy! Isn’t that how it always works?
I love this picture of her…she looks so happy!! 🙂
We hope you all get to do something fun today with your humans!
Riley is zonked out beside me on the couch taking her morning nap. It’s going to be almost 90 degrees today. It was 95 yesterday! We stayed inside most of the day.
I am planning on
dragging taking my sister with me to a big dog show that’s going on this weekend in town. The Langley Kennel Club and the Gloucester Kennel Club put this show on every year at the local Convention Center. I went a few years ago, but only had time to browse, so I spend on planning a little bit more time there this year. Unfortunately, dogs that aren’t competing in the show can’t attend, so Riley will just have to continue her napping. The Australian Cattle Dogs are showing tomorrow morning, and not today, but I’m hoping to get lots of pictures of other dog breeds today.
Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend! I might head up to Busch Gardens one day this weekend (with about 87,000 other people, no doubt…), and am planning on hitting up some yard sales tomorrow morning. Also, I think I’m going to be babysitting for my friends while they go to a movie. (It’s all good, I like to babysit this little girl!).
Since Riley was your very own Personal Trainer on Thursday demonstrating how to properly execute (and enjoy) the Insanity Workout, she feels she needs to do a post on how to stay properly hydrated when exercising! She also is applying to become a regular writer on the “Miss Manners” newspaper column. Not sure how that last bit is going to work out though!
“First, you test out the temperature with your tongue…you want the water to be nice and cool, not too hot and not cold enough to give you a brain freeze!”
“Be sure to stick your whole snout down in the bowl to cool off your nose!”
“Also, it is the most fun if you splash water all over the ground/wall/upside-down flower pots and your paws…you know, you sweat from your paws and having nice, wet paws helps cool you off!”
“Oooh, oooh!! Blow bubbles in the water with your nose! There’s no scientific reasoning for this, it’s just a whole lot of fun!”
A quick, funny story from this morning–I might have overslept a little bit and Grandpa came to my room and opened the door a little bit so Riley could get out and go downstairs to go out to the bathroom and to eat breakfast. She was still sleeping when he opened the door. He said she jumped up on all fours and stood on the bed with her back arched and the fur sticking up on her back. I guess she was ready to be my guard dog until she realized it was just Grandpa and Chloe out in the hall.
Gotta go…the phone’s ringing! Must be Miss Manners calling! 🙂
