Riley’s New Iris Airtight Food Container

I ordered Riley a new food container from Amazon the other day because I’m going to start buying her 30 lb bags of food instead of the 15 lb I have been buying.  It’s just more cost effective to buy the bigger bags.  The pet store is doing a program where you buy 12 bags and get one free.  I decided I would start buying the big bags a few months ago but I already had 10 bags of 15 lb food out of the 12 I needed to get my 13th bag free.  Confusing?  🙂

Anyway, so I went to Care-A-Lot (my go-to local pet store that I LOVE) today and picked up the last two bags of 15 lb food I needed to get that 13th bag free.  (The bags all had to be the same size, so they all had to be 15 lb bags).  I learned that they’re ending their buy 12 get one free program…boo…but they’ll still honor the card I have that has my 12 bags on it, so that’s good.

Anywho, enough confusion!  Onto the pictures!

The new container is on the left, the old one on the right.  The old one held about 20 lbs of food.  The new one says it holds 37+ lbs, which I believe because I have about 36 lbs in there right now and there’s still room at the top of the container for a few more pounds.

Riley’s food.  Bags #11 and 12.

The specs.

Of course, I had to paint her name on the top.  We wouldn’t want anyone to get her and Chloe’s food confused…even though Chloe’s food is in a different type of container and is kept in a different room…but still.

Skeeter, Skeeter, Overeater!

One of Riley’s many nicknames is “Skeeter” or “Skee.”  For some reason, when she was a puppy, I called her “Rilesky Lapinski,” thus the “Skeeter” nickname was born.  I like to sing a little song because every time we have a family dinner my mom is the last to finish eating (Riley’s “Grandma”)…  So I sing “Skeeter, Skeeter, compulsive eater, had a Grandma but couldn’t feed her.”  Thus the title of this post (I felt I should explain that!).

Well, last night was probably the best night of Riley’s life.  Riley usually eats dinner around 6:30 but I had somewhere I needed to go at 5:45 and my mom did too.  So we fed Riley half of her food at like 5:40 and I was going to have my mom feed her the other half when she got home at 7:30.  My dad came home from work at around 6:00 while we were both gone and fed Riley all of her food at 6:30.  Since we all have impeccable communication skills, Riley got fed the other half of her food at 7:30…  So Riley double dipped yesterday and got two full dinners instead of just one…best night of her life!

Impressed With New Trainer

So I went for a consultation with the new dog trainer I was trying out.  I was very impressed.  We hopefully have a solution for her fear of larger dogs, jumping up on people that come in our house, and wanting to eat our food when we eat on the couch.  I’ve already tried out how to keep her away from my food while I’m eating on the couch and it worked well.  I had her sitting in front of me on the floor while I was eating a snack on the couch and I fed her a treat every so often if she was being good.  She wasn’t a problem at all.  Eventually we can wean her off of the treats and she should just sit on the floor and leave my food alone.  We have all the tools we need to succeed and I don’t need to take her in for training unless what we do doesn’t work.  Anyway, I will be in touch with this trainer and hopefully we won’t have any issues.
