Evil Tree Rat

Well, I am happy to report that Riley is feeling MUCH better!  Good enough to want to chase a squirrel in the yard…  I took her out to poop this morning, and lo and behold, there was a tree rat on the fence right in front of us.  Riley tried to run after it, but quickly realized she was on her leash.  Then the frustrated barking/yipping ensued!  She reaaaaally wanted to chase that squirrel.

I haven’t heard her yelp or cry since she started crate rest on Monday.  She also started her meds on Monday, so I think that has a lot to do with it as well.  She seriously considered getting up on the couch when I let her walk over there (on her leash) and greet Grandma last night.  I could have strangled her…!  😉  She seems to be pain free and wanting to get back to jumping and climbing stairs, so that’s a good sign.  Let’s just hope it stays this way when she gets off of crate rest.

She has been so good in her crate!  She still (of course) barks when she hears the UPS or mail man outside and when someone’s coming in the house (because she can’t see out the window to see who it is).  She settles down nicely and sleeps or just rests all day.  She is doing much better than I would do on crate rest!  She doesn’t put up a fuss, just accepts her fate, so that’s good.

  1. Good girl Riley. Crate rest is not so much fun but you will soon be much better we hope! Keeping our human leashed to us and keeping them under control is such a challenger is it not?i am still working on that. Kinda cramps our style …WagsErnie

  3. Glad things are getting better. Our old vet who was brilliant use to say unless the pain was really bad let them use to the pain to moderate their own activity. Otherwise the pain relief makes us think we can do more than we can by masking the pain and maybe causing more damage. He was an old fashioned very clever vet. Onwards and Upwards.Best wishes Molly

  5. I always worry when they are on pain meds, if it is the meds actually making them feel better or if they are getting better. I know it sounds bad, but I want them to be a tiny bit uncomfortable so they remember their limitations. 😦

Riley loves hearing from her friends!
