Riley’s Pain…

I noticed a few days ago that every once in a while Riley would yelp in pain for seemingly no reason.  She would be roaching around on the ground and would yelp.  I accidentally nudged her with my foot in bed and she yelped.  At first I thought it was just because I had surprised her, but yesterday, her pain got much worse.

When we came home from running errands yesterday afternoon, Riley was on the edge of the loveseat to greet us.  Suddenly she cried out in pain for about a minute straight and wouldn’t put her left rear leg (her surgery leg from October) on the floor.  After a few minutes, she was walking on it again, but she continued to have bouts of lameness and yelping all night.  When we went upstairs to bed, she cried while climbing the stairs.  Then she slept on the floor last night whereas she normally sleeps on the bed.  She has pet steps to get on the bed instead of jumping, but didn’t use them.

This morning, I slept in while everyone else was gone from the house.  Chloe woke me up when she came upstairs and jumped on my bed.  I expected Riley to soon follow.  Instead, I heard Riley at the bottom of the stairs barking and whining because she couldn’t climb the stairs and wanted to come upstairs.

My mom said that now she thinks it’s Riley’s back instead of her knee because she was limping on her right leg this morning.  Sigh.  She said she was still jumping on the couch this morning, but I haven’t seen her do it yet.  She bumped into a chair while we were eating lunch and cried out in pain a couple times.

Unfortunately, I’m out of pain pills from her surgery in October.  I am going to call the vet tomorrow to see about getting her some more pain pills.  Hopefully I won’t have to bring her in since going to the vet stresses her out so much.  Perhaps she just pulled something in all her wildness and rambunctiousness.  She isn’t limping right now, but also isn’t her wild and crazy self.  Yesterday she was running around in the yard even though she was having those bouts of limping/pain, so who knows what it is.

  1. We are so sorry to hear this about Riley. We hope she is OK and just strained a muscle. We are thinking the vet is probably going to want to see her before prescribing pain meds. All paws crossed.Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

  3. Oh poor Riley.we hope it is nothing serious. Ernie is finally able to move around leash free. But played with one of the fosters and yelped. I put ice on His knee right away. He is pretty good today. I find I do not really trust his knees even tho we did all we were told to do. Keeping paws crossed for Riley and youWags Ernie
