The Offending Chirp

We had a bit of excitement this morning with Riley…  She is very sensitive to noises like thunder and our security alarm going off (who wouldn’t be started by an alarm blaring??).  Our bedrooms are all upstairs and we have a smoke alarm in the hallway.  Well, said smoke alarm was on the fritz this morning, so it was “chirping” every minute or so.

Riley freaked.  She was shaking and her heart was literally about to pound out of her chest.  She started scratching on the door like crazy to get out of the bedroom.  So we let her out and took her outside to do her morning potty.  Then she usually gets fed right after that, so Grandma filled her bowl, but Riley wouldn’t eat.  Riley not eating is like Riley not wanting to play–it NEVER happens!  I think this is actually the first time she’s refused food in the 4 years I’ve had her.  We gave her some calming pills (a homeopathic thing from the pet store that seems to work well), and after about 15 minutes of cuddling on the bed with me, the thing finally stopped chirping and she was able to calm down enough to go downstairs and eat.

Where the old smoke detector was…

Grandpa installing the new smoke detector.

The new one…

And Riley didn’t want her “furiends” to forget what she looked like, so here’s a picture of her!  🙂
We decided to go to Atlantic City for our vacation.  I know, Atlantic City with a baby??  Are we crazy?  We probably won’t spend much time in the casino…read: “we won’t spend any time in the casino.”  We’ll go to the pool and we’re going to go to the aquarium there and the Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum.  Should be fun.  It’s going to be an all girls trip–Grandma, Aunt Baddy, Baby Bailey, and me.  Riley will stay home with Grandpa and Chloe.  We’re leaving on Sunday and coming back on Tuesday, so we may not be around much this weekend as we prepare!

  1. We have over 20 detectors in our house and when the battery is low they begin to chirp. It is hard to tell which one is doing it because of the sound on the vaulted ceiling. But it can drive anyone crazy! Hope your vacation is fun!Your Pals,Murphy & Stanley

  3. Those ceiling smoke alarms can be so annoying. In our old house, little pieces of the insulation could fall into it and set it off. And then the chirping when the battery is low. So annoying.Hope you have fun in Atlantic City. Mom says Grandmas are usually good for some baby watching while the younger ladies go to the casino for a bit – hint, hint.Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
