A Restless Night

Riley had a rather restless night last night.  But I can’t really say I blame her, considering they sawed her shin bone in half then screwed it back together!!  She didn’t whine or anything, but just kept readjusting herself and getting up and turning around, etc.  Of course, that kept me up, so I think I got a total of 2 hours of sleep last night.  Riley is sleeping right now as I’m typing this.  I gave her her pain medicine, anti-inflammatory, and antibiotic around 6:30 this morning, so I’m hoping those are helping make her comfortable now.

Icing her leg while she eats a bully stick.  Ignore the at least 12 year-old Nightmare Before Christmas pajama pants I’m wearing!!

She’s only had one tiny bowel movement (oh, now she’s REALLY going to be embarrassed!!) since she came home and that was difficult for her.  She circled and circled and circled before she could pass it, so I’m guessing some of the drugs they gave her made her a little constipated.  Nothing a little pumpkin won’t help out with.  Thankfully, she knows the difference between the “go potty” (pee) and “go poop” commands, so that kind of helps.  I can plant the idea in her brain that maybe she needs to go poop…subtle hints, y’all, subtle hints!  🙂

I am hoping we both get some sleep this morning/afternoon and that she’s more comfortable tonight and sleeps better.  I noticed today her ankle is swollen, whereas it wasn’t really that swollen yesterday.  The swelling should go down in 5-10 days.  The appointment to get her staples out is on November 14th and then her 8 week follow up appointment with X-rays is on December 26th.  We are letting her off crate rest on Christmas day (as long as everything is going well) though!

We cut off our porch light last night (because we’re Halloween haters…just kidding, we’re not!), so kids wouldn’t come to the door and make Riley bark and get upset in her crate.  That worked out well…no kids came to our door.  Plus, I get to eat the Halloween candy we bought!  Cha-ching!  Just kidding…well, kind of.  🙂

Well, that’s all for now…will post another update soon.

  1. Poor girl! We are hoping for a non-eventful, speedy recovery! We called our Halloween short – Sam couldn't sit with us outside and it wasn't any fun for us without him greeting the kids. Sam

  3. I am truly impressed that you have somehow managed to keep your pj's for twelve years! lol – you might hold the record! ;)Here's to hoping Riley's discomfort and pain aren't too terrible for her and she starts feeling better really soon. Good call on canceling the trick or treaters to help keep her calm!

Riley loves hearing from her friends!
