Welcome Home Riley!

Riley just got home!  Yay!  I can’t imagine what I’m going to do when she dies…I missed her so much last night (and that was only ONE night!).  She looks great.  She’s already putting that leg down.  She was happy to get a good sniff of Chloe through the bars of jail…err, the crate…

I thought I was going to have to kill her though, because when they brought her out, she went from standing to flopping over on her back for a belly rub…TWICE!  Oh geeeeez!  The girl had to check her incision to make sure she didn’t tear anything open.  I nearly had a heart attack watching her flop over like that twice!

My high school English teacher was there with her mom and her mom’s dog that had the same surgery 8 weeks ago.  Her dog’s fur was already growing back in, whereas it took Riley’s about 4 months to grow in last time.  She said he had his right leg done, did 8 weeks of crate rest, was off crate rest for 4 days, then tore his left knee!  So they’ve pretty much done 16 straight weeks of crate rest…how horrible!!  Made me thankful that Riley’s two surgeries were a year apart!

When I went in to pick her up, I told the two girls at the desk that I was there for Riley.  They had to tell me how sweet she was and that one of them was playing with her yesterday before her surgery.  They also said they’d been back there to see her today and she’ll put her body up against the side of the cage to be petted.  The one girl said that she has a female dog named Riley too!  And she said she went back there last night before she left at 7:00 to check on her.  Glad Riley made such a good impression and got some extra special treatment!

Her incision looks a little more gruesome this time than it did last time, but they told me it looked good, so I guess it’s fine.  I asked the girl that brought her out to me and helped me get her in my car if she was making a lot of fuss in the crate in the back.  The girl said that Riley was fine as long as there was someone back there with her, but that she didn’t like being left alone in the kennels.  That’s my girl!

Thanks again for everyone’s thoughts, prayers, and kind words of encouragement.  We both really appreciate them!  Riley’s Grandma was having to read her some of the well wishes the other day!  🙂
