I heard about an awesome new book called “Lost Souls: Found! Inspiring Stories of Herding Breed Dogs” all about rescuing different dogs of the herding breeds. Happy Tails Books writes books about rescuing dogs. They have books about all kinds of different breeds and different groups of dogs.
You can buy the book as an e-Book or you can buy the physical book. They have a special offer going on through April 30th, that gets you either $2 off or a double donation to the rescue group of your choice (provided they are a partner with Happy Tails Books). Too cool.
Here’s an excerpt from the book that Aly Jabrocki writes about her adopted Cattle Dog, Clem, (short for Clementine):
Isn’t she cute?
“At the time, we lived in a small, one-bedroom apartment on a busy road. Every time I took Clem outside to go to the bathroom I changed from pajamas to jeans (you never know who you’re going to see!). One day Clem was whining to go out, and I told her, “Hang on! You know I have to change my pants.”
She cocked her head to one side and trotted off to the bedroom. Thirty seconds later she came back dragging a pair of my jeans that she had dug out of the laundry basket! I had never taught her this “trick.” That’s when I realized she was much smarter than I had thought.”
Check out the book and all of Happy Tails’ other books about different breeds and groups of dogs.
Even though Riley came from a breeder, we definitely promote rescuing dogs. Chloe is rescued from the pound and cousin Highway is also rescued. We’re happy to support anyone who promotes rescuing dogs, especially herding breeds and Cattle Dogs in particular!
