This is only the first half of the second day of crate rest for Chloe… She has been barking and whining in her crate since she got put in there at 7:30 AM. She’s eventually going to go hoarse, right? Or get exhausted and fall asleep, right? We were up until about 12:30 AM with her whining until my mom (who had to go to work at 8:00 AM) finally let her out of the crate to sleep in our dining room with her with everything blocked off. She still wouldn’t quiet down in there, so finally my mom gave up and lifted her up on the couch to sleep with her and just prayed to God she wouldn’t jump down in the middle of the night. Chloe slept like a baby and didn’t move all night.
I’m not too proud to admit that I’m wearing earplugs right now and have the TV turned up loud. Riley keeps wanting to go outside or she’ll go upstairs to lie down to escape the madness! I threatened my parents that one of them better call the vet today to get her something else to take so she’ll settle down…mainly for my sanity (I’m not too proud to admit that either). So her vet called her in Phenobarbital to take with half of a Xanax. I gave it to her almost an hour ago and she’s still whining/barking in full force. Unfortunately, she doesn’t do any better at the vet in their kennels. Our vet told us to call her tomorrow and let her know if the Phenobarbital is working at all. She said she doesn’t want to prescribe her Acepromazine, that it’s a last resort.

Oh my, it's not better huh? I would haves to say leave her outta da crate fur awhile to see if hers will settle…maybe. Hers prolly ain't gonna get tired od whining. We dogs can go on and on and on and on.I sure hopes da new meds work.I'll most definately come by tomorrow to celebrate Riley's BIG day! Woooohoooooo!Puddles

I agree with Miss Puddles, I think I would let her out and stay with her. Maybe just sit with her by the crate all alone. Does she have a favorite toy or blankie. Then just talk in a very soft and soothing voice. I am sure she is so scared. Poor little girl. I hope things improve….

Just catching up on your blog poor Chloe and poor you and mom!Just an idea but how would she be tried up on a lead with her bed, so she should move around but not come to any harm.Happy Birthday Riley hope you get loads of foodables ;)See Yea George xxx

I shut Riley in the dining room and I have Chloe on the floor in the family room on a leash. She's passed out sleeping. We have to keep Riley and Chloe separate because Riley will jump on Chloe to try to get her to play and Riley just plays too roughly with her…especially right after surgery. Riley's doing surprisingly well in the other room…she can't see me, but she's not whining or barking. She hasn't been able to get her nap(s) today because of all the fuss Chloe was making, so she's probably asleep too.

Our "April" has been on that for years because of her Epilepsy but I've never noticed that it has calmed her down or made her sleepy. Never even knew it could do that. I'd try stocking up on some things for Chloe to do while she's in the crate. The Kong company has some great recipes for stuff you can put in the Kongs to keep dogs busy for a while. You could also give her some marrow bones or other chew toys. I also think she might do better with some quiet time outside the crate. Do you have an ex-pen you could set up in part of the house? That might make her feel better. Happy Birthday, Riley!
